Castleton is special. The limestone here was an ancient coral reef and it's riddled with caves, including Blue John Cavern, Peak Cavern and Speedwell.
You climb out of the village up Cave Dale, a dry limestone gorge below Peveril Castle, on the Limestone Way, then cross over to Mam Tor, the 'shivering mountain'. From there it's along the Great Ridge, with the Hope Valley on one side and the Edale valley on the other, before dropping back to Castleton.
About eight miles, and one of the best in the Peak.
