Chester to Ellesmere Port
Through Chester at Christmas and out along the Shropshire Union Canal to Ellesmere Port, on a frozen minus six morning.

Just before Christmas 2022, in the grip of an arctic spell, it was minus six when I set off from my favourite city.
From Little Roodee you run through the city centre, up Lower Bridge Street and Bridge Street, along to the Eastgate Clock and down Foregate Street, then out towards the station and onto the Shropshire Union Canal. The towpath takes you all the way out of the city, through frosty countryside to Ellesmere Port and the National Waterways Museum where the canal meets the Ship Canal.
It's one way, so get the train back.
