Just over the border from Cheshire, Rushton Spencer has the Knot Inn, a mid-Victorian railway pub beside the old Macclesfield to Uttoxeter line. The line is now part of the Staffordshire Way.

The route follows the old railway to where it meets the Gritstone Trail and loops back to the pub. It's a little over three miles, just enough to earn a pint.

If you want an appetite for a meal too, head the other way along the old line. It's about three quarters of a mile to Rudyard Lake, which makes it about a six mile walk.
