Exploring Congleton - Congleton Park, Biddulph Valley Way & Macclesfield Canal

Today we are in the east of Cheshire at the old market town of Congleton. A settlement since the neolithic period, Congleton Town became a prosperous market town. Today it’s a beautiful spot for a walk or a run with lots of route options. Today we start from Wetherspoons on Bridge Street and head up to the town hall before dropping down to the park we then head over to the Biddulph Valley Way and up to the Macclesfield Canal, looping around to Astbury and heading back into town via Lambert’s Lane about 4.5 miles in total. Alternatively you could head up the up the Dane Valley Way for a visit to Biddulph Grange Gardens or perhaps up The Cloud or onto the Gritstone Trail.

The Route

Starting on Bridge Street near The Counting House we head up the Main Street to the town hall then turn left into Kinsey Street and cross Mountbatten Way at the Crossing and take the path to Worrall Street. Turn left then immediately right into Park road. Loop around the park clockwise and just beyond the bowling green turn left on the path up to the A54 Willow Street. Turn left and then right onto the Bidduph Valley Way opposite the petrol station. Follow the path until just before the 4th bridge, take the steps up to the canal and turn right. Follow the path until you reach Lambert’s Lane. Exit the canal at the steps and turn left. Head down Lambert’s lane and take the path on your right marked for the town centre.
