Congleton, on the eastern edge of Cheshire, has been settled since Neolithic times and grew into a prosperous market town. It's a great base for walks, with lots of route options.
This one starts on Bridge Street, goes up to the town hall and drops down to the park by the River Dane, then heads over to the Biddulph Valley Way and up to the Macclesfield Canal, looping round by Astbury and back into town.
