Hilbre Island - 4.5 Mile Walk / Run from West Kirby to Hilbre Island & Back

I loved this one, perhaps its just me but I love running by the sea. Starting from the Boating Lake on South Parade at West Kirby on the Wirral we head out to Hilbre Island for some fantastic views.

Important This route must be done while the tide is out. Its safe to cross 3 hours after high tide and you need to be back 3 hours before the next high tide, if you are walking you should allow an hour for the walk back. Don’t be tempted to cross from Red Rocks / Hoylake, the safe route is as follows:

The Route

From South Parade head to the North end of the boating lake and head out onto the sand, head out to Little Eye aiming to keep it on your right. When you reach Little Eye, aim for the right hand side of the next island Middle Eye / Little Hilbre. When you reach Middle Eye head up the beach and up the steps and follow the path over the island and down to the shore on the far side. Follow the rough track that runs between Middle Eye and Hilbre Island. When you reach Hilbre Island head to the left of the Red Sandstone Cliff onto the track onto the island and follow the track to the far end and enjoy the view. When you’re ready, retrace your steps.
