Goostrey is a beautiful spot with lots of fantastic paths over the fields and through the surrounding woodland linking you to Holmes Chapel, Peover, Jodrell Bank, Cranage and Swettenham. Todays route is starts from Saltersford Corner at Holmes Chapel and takes us through to Goostrey via Hermitage Drive and Dromedary Lodge. We then head up to Galey Wood and back into Goostrey via Blackden Heath and return to Holmes Chapel via the Viaduct.
Starting from Saltersford corner we head into Holmes Chapel via Macclesfield Road then turn right into Hermitage drive continuing onto the track that eventually comes out on Twemlow lane, we turn right and then take the path on the left via Dromedary Lodge to the main road in Goostrey.
Turning right we continue to the village green where we turn left into Mill lane which we follow until we reach the woods, turn left into the woods and follow the path through the woods over the field to the main part of Galey Wood then take the path left towards Peover over the fields to the edge of Great Wood then turn right towards Blackden Heath.
At the road turn right and continue until you reach Cross lane where we turn left. I’ve turned right when I reach Bomish lane and followed it back into Goostrey however there is a footpath which brings you to the Red Lion in Goostrey however at the time of filming the path is marked as temporarily close.
To go this way continue straight on rather than turning into Bomish lane then turn right into Bridge lane and take the path on your left at Blackden Firs.
Having reached Goostrey again I turned right at the church then took the path on the left, you might want to stop at the Red lion pub for some refreshment first though. The path comes out on Twemlow lane near Blueslate farm, we turn right and then take the path on the left.
Note we are going straight on here, there is another path to the right which take you back to Hermitage drive which is well worn and the far end of the field dips so the straight on path is not obvious. Skirt the edge of the woods and drop down and head for the viaduct at the road turn right up the hill back to Saltersford Corner.
The route is based on parking at Saltersford Corner.
If you’d like a shorter route (about 4 miles) then park at Goostrey and close your route using either Twemlow lane or the Main Road which passes through Goostrey
