Today on Run Adventurer, we’re in Oakamoor in Staffordshire not far from Alton Towers. The route today isn’t too long at 4.5 miles so perfect for a walk. I’ve started from Oakamoor near the Cricketers Arms but you could also start from the Ramblers Rest Tea Rooms at Dimmingsdale. We start beside the river Churnet at Oakamoor bridge, running down to the old Oakamoor Station, its just a bit of platform now, from here we head down the Churnet Way to Lord’s Bridge and through to the Ramblers Retreat at Dimmingsdale and then back up through the Valley and back around to the starting point. Beautiful spot for a walk or run, there was a kind of magical feeling with the sun breaking through the tree canopy and the gentle flow of water from the river and stream, definitely go check it out for yourself.
From the Lime Kilns opposite the Cricketers Arms in Oakamoor head down the track to the meadow beside the river Churnet at Oakamoor bridge. Head down the meadow and continue straight on down the track to the old station then on along the Churnet Way where the train used to run. At the bridge (Lord’s Bridge) exit and turn right, crossing the river Churnet and down the path to the Ramblers Retreat at Dimmingsdale. Turn right and follow the track until you reach a house (Earls Rock) where we tun left. Follow the path which crosses the stream behind the house and follow it beside the stream. Just keep following the path straight on until you reach the road at Stoney Dale. Turn right and follow the lane back to Oakamoor. When you reach Oakamoor Tunnel (the disused rail tunnel) turn right through the car park and across the meadow, over the bridge onto the far side of the meadow then turn left back to our starting point.
