Back in Wincle, parked by the Ship Inn and the Wincle Brewery, but heading the other way this time: along the Dane Valley Way over the border into Staffordshire and the Peak District.
The route goes out through Back Forest and Gradbach to Lud's Church, a chasm split open in the gritstone by a landslip, deep, narrow and green with moss. It's said to have sheltered the Lollards, and some reckon it's the Green Chapel from Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. It feels like it.
