From Marple you follow the Peak Forest Canal to Marple Aqueduct, the tallest canal aqueduct in England, built in 1800 to carry limestone from the Derbyshire quarries over the River Goyt.

From there you go through Redbrow Woods down to the River Etherow and follow it through Compstall into Etherow Country Park, which is beautiful and has an impressive weir at the top, before heading back.
