The Secret Salt Line 10
10 mile circular route from Sandbach including the Secret Salt Line at Alsager

What a stunning morning for a run. The canal was frozen and everything was sparkling with a hard frost. The sun was low and there was a gorgeous sunrise, pretty much the perfect morning. Today’s run includes a path that many may be unaware of the Secret Salt Line / Forgotten Salt Line. The path has no finger post at either end and so could be easily overlooked but allows you to extend the Salt Line all the way out to the far side of Alsager. I’ve used the canal to make it into a loop which from Sandbach is 10 miles in total.

The Route

Starting from Sandbach near the Old Hall Hotel we head out to Malkins Bank and pick up the Trent and Mersey Canal and head towards Kidsgrove. Once we reach Rode Heath we follow the path at Rode Heath Rise and then a lane bringing us to the main road at the far end of Alsager where we pick up the Secret Salt Line, heading back to the more widely known Salt line and Borrow Pit Meadow track and back to the canal, retracing out steps to Sandbach.

Apologies if the film is a little slower and jerkier than normal, it was so cold the cameras image stabilisation was struggling however it was just so beautiful I had to share.
