Walk / Run Route Sandbach, Cheshire

It’s the great north run today, and while this isn’t the great north run, it’s a great run on the north.

The Route

Parking by the canal on Plant lane in Moston this 8.5 mile circular route follows the canal from Moston to Wheelock before following the footpath past the dancing bridge to Mill Hill lane and on to Brook Wood, St Marys Dell and through Sandbach Town Centre.

It passes the 17th Century Manor House and Church, taking in the Gothic revival architecture of Sir Gilbert Scott, past Scotch common the scene of a skirmish during the English Civil War and passed the cobbled square and 7th-9th Century Saxon Crosses. It then heads off through Sandbach Park and off on a footpath over the fields past the fishery to Pillar Box lane in Bradwall and then along another footpath over the fields to Elworth before returning to the starting point in Moston.

Refreshments

Why not stop for refreshments, the old hall hotel has a beer garden so is suitable for dog walkers too. Wetherspoons is great value, unlimited coffee for £1.30 each, pints of beer from £1.29. Or visit chatwins bakery and coffee shop.
