Today we are heading down to Wheelock for a looped route. It was a beautiful morning filmed in mid February just after the really cold snap it was mild and Spring was in the air with the animals out and about and the first signs of spring. The total route is 7.5 miles with the 3.5 mile Wheelock loop starting and ending at Wheelock Services on the Trent and Mersey Canal. Mostly on paths and over fields its a great route that gets you straight out of the town and into the Cheshire countryside.
Starting from the Cobbles in Sandbach, we head down Church Street and nip across the bridge into Dingle Wood and up to the traffic light. We then dip down into St Mary’s Dell which brings us out near the roundabout near Waitrose. We cross the road and head down into Brook Wood, I’ve followed it to its farthest edge today which brings you out on Coronation Cresent. We turn left and then left down the path to Mill Hill Lane. Here we turn left down the hill and take the path to the canal via the dancing bridge. At the Canal, we turn right and get off at the bridge, this is the start / end point of the approximately 3.5 mile loop around Wheelock. Turning left we then take the path on our right that leads to the flashes at Clay lane. The path follows a farm track before heading off to the right over the field close to the brook eventually bring you out at Brook Farm Lane where we turn right and follow the path that runs parallel to the railway line. Upon reaching the canal towpath we turn right and follow the Trent and Mersey Canal back to the end of our loop at Wheelock Services. From here we carry on along the canal to the next bridge where we get off, cross the bridge and follow the track to the right underneath the Wheelock Rail Trail and across the fields to Hassall Road. Finally we turn left up the rise and left into Houndings Lane then right down the track and take the path across the field which brings us out close to the traffic lights in Sandbach. Cross the road and head up Sandbach High street to the finish point at the Saxon Crosses on the Cobbles.
