Wrenbury is a beautiful village in Cheshire on the far side of Nantwich on the way to Whitchurch. It lies on the Llangollen Canal and close to the South Cheshire Way and is just a lovely quiet spot surrounded by farmland that are crisscrossed with footpath in all directions making it a great spot to start a walk or run particularly given the two popular pubs right next to the canal. At the time of filming (March 2022) the Dusty Miller is closed but due to reopen shortly, the empty beer barrels outside The Cotton Arms shows they are very much open though so I’d suggest heading there for a drink after your walk or run if its opening time.
From the starting point opposite The Cotton Arms turn left on Cholmondeley Road passing the Dusty Miller Pub then turn left onto the towpath of the Llangollen Canal. Follow the canal to bridge 23 at Marbury, turn left into School Lane then immediately left onto the footpath. Follow the path up the field to the top, follow the right hand edge of the next field then the path turns right and drops down to Wrenbury Road.
Turn left and follow then lane until you reach the South Cheshire Way marked path on your left at Hurst Hall. Head up the drive then turn right and follow the path down the bank at the end turn left and then where the track forks take the right hand fork. Follow the path until you reach the farm at Marbury Heyes then turn left at the stile then immediately right, the path goes through a small wood behind the farm at the far side turn right and follow the path straight on beyond the farm over the field. Cross Marbury Brook and continue straight on to Smeaton Hall, take the stile on your left then bear right and go around the left hand side of the pond, you’ll be able to see Wrenbury Church in the distance in front of you. Turn right and head for the treelike at the far side of the field which brings you out on New Road. Turn left and follow the lane into Wrenbury. At the end of the road turn left into Cholmondeley Road and follow it back to the starting point.
