Cawsand & Mount Edgecombe, Cornwall - 6 Mile Walk or Run

I’ve been away on holiday in Cornwall and found you a beautiful route for next time you’re in the area. Starting from Cawsand we head through Kingsand, along the shore and down the South West Coastal Path past Fort Picklecombe to Mount Edgecombe Country Park for some stunning views of Plymouth and Devon from Cornwall.

The Route

Starting from the pay and display car park at Cawsand, we head down Armada road in Cawsand to the square and have a quick look at the beach. We then head up the hill (Garrett Street) and drop down into Kingsand where we turn right staying near the shore on Market Street and on into The Cleave and down onto the shoreline. Head down the rocks until you reach a link onto the coastal path on your left. Follow the path through to the road near Fort Picklecombe and turn right, then take the path behind Fort Picklecombe on your left. Directly behind the fort there is a place to stop and sit at Picklecombe Seat. After a quick breather continue down the path which winds up the hill, the path is a little difficult to follow with several tiers of path, you want to be on the top path (leftmost). Your climb is rewarded by a fantastic viewing spot at the top. Now turn left and into Mount Edgecombe Country park, head across the field stopping to take in the fantastic view across to Drakes Island and Plymouth, I could clearly see the Hoe and the Barbican the day I visited. Continue on the path which will bring you to Mount Edgecombe House where we turn left up the drive and then left up the track to the deer park. The path comes out at St Mary’s and St Julian’s Church at Maker. Head past the church and then take the path on the left over the fields. The path comes out on a lane, turn right up the hill and then left at the end of the road by Maker Farm onto The Earl’s Drive. You head up a short rise and then take the coastal path on your left, follow the path straight on until it comes out on Earl’s Drive then turn left down to the crossroads where you go straight on into New road, head up the hill and on the bend take the steps on your left down into Garrett Street where you turn right and retrace your steps back to the beach and then the car park.
