Great route today heading 11 miles one way from Crosby in Liverpool up the coast to Formby returning by train. We are just four or five miles north of Liverpool City Centre with views over to the Port of Liverpool at Bootle and head up Crosby Beach for a look at the Anthony Gormley Another Place Sculptures then along the coastal path and over the dunes to the beach at Hightown with its Submerged Forest (remains of 4000 year old trees) and then on to Formby Point for a run along the beach and on into Formby. Absolutely loved it, well worth a visit.
Starting Marine Crescent in Crosby head down the path to Crosby Marina and straight on to Crosby Beach. Turn right and run down the beach. At the far end of the beach head back onto the prom and turn left along the coastal path. Follow the path until just before you reach a housing estate where return left across the dunes and straight on onto Hightown Beach. Head along the beach and then right alongside the Alt Estuary, the path comes out on Lower Alt Road. Go straight on and at the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Lower Alt road, at the bend turn left by the train station and down the path alongside Altcar Firing range. Cross the over the river Alt and then take the path on your left behind the firing range, at the far end turn left and follow the path to the beach at Formby point. Turn right and head down the beach until you reach the lifeguard station at Formby, take the board walk path back to the National Trust Car park, go straight through the car park and then left up Lifeboat Road. At the far end go straight on up Bushbys Lane, continue until you cross the railway tracks then turn left into Formby Street and left into Duke Street.
