Today we are exploring Lymm in Cheshire. Located south of Warrington at its heart is the village of Lymm surrounded by adjacent hamlets, there is a lake with a popular walk around it formed by the Lymm Dam that we’ll be exploring. Also the Trans Pennine trail (here a section of disused railway) and the Bridge Water Canal running roughly parallel cut through the village and today we are going to join them up to make a couple of loops 5.7 miles in total.
From Statham Avenue cross Whitbarrow Road and join the Trans Pennine trail. At the next road crossing (Lymmhay Lane) turn right head up the road and straight on into Dane Bank Road and straight into the village. Turn right over the canal bridge and on to the Cross in the middle of Lymm. Turn left into Rectory Lane and follow it to the end. Cross the A56 and take the path straight on to the Lake. Follow the path around the lake crossing at the Wishing Well Bridge and heading back down the other side. Recross the A56 and take the path straight on through The Dingle to the village centre. Turn right back up past the Cross and recross the canal bridge. Now turn left onto the cobbled path past the cottages to the Bridgewater Canal tow path and turn right.
Follow the canal, you will eventually go under the M6 near the Thelwall Viaduct continue following the canal until you reach a path on your right. Turn right and join the Trans Pennine Trail path and head back towards Lymm. When you reach the M6 turn right under it and then take the path which continues to your right. Follow the path which will eventually come out in the car park by the rangers station on Statham Avenue.
The route is based on parking at the Trans Pennine Trail Car Park on Statham Avenue (currently closed for resurfacing I parked on the road)
