Styal & Wilmslow Walk /Run - River Bollin, Wilmslow & Quarry Bank Mill

To we are in Styal a lovely village just north of Wilmslow. As well as visiting by car, Styal has a train station and we are just south of Manchester so you could hop on the Crewe / Manchester train for a day out. As well as some fantastic routes along the river Bollin on sections of the Bollin Valley Way there is Quarry Bank Mill which is well worth a visit close to our start point. We head down to Styal Cross , pass Norcliffe Chapel and on into Chapel Wood dropping down to the river Bollin at the rear of the Quarry Bank Mill Gardens. We then head west following the river coming out next to Manchester Airport runway at the edge of Wilmslow and head across the fields to Morley Green and back into Wilmslow, returning via Wilmslow Rugby Club, The Carrs and through Quarry Bank Mill. Lovely route, particularly by the river, an ideal spot for a dog walk.

The Route

Starting from Altrincham Road take the cobbled road opposite the Cricket Club into Styal village passing Styal Cross and on into the woods. Where the path forks go left and follow it down to the river Bollin at Kingfisher Bridge and turn right. Follow the path by the river until you reach a footbridge on your left. Cross the bridge and turn left following down the left hand side of the river. At Giant’s Castle Bridge cross the river again and follow the path continuing left along the right hand side of the river until you emerge near the airport hotel. Turn right then left on Altrincham Road and cross the road at the roundabout and turn left. Take the path on your right and follow it across the field, up the bank and through the next field beyond which it turns either left or right, turn left and follow it through to Dooleys lane. Follow the lane to the end then turn right on Morley Green Road. Take the path on your left, it goes behind the houses and then bears left heading over the field and coming out by a farm on Nansmoss Lane. Go straight on and follow the track through to Mobberley Road. Turn left and at the end of the road cross and take the path straight on through the wood coming out on Kings Road. Turn left then immediately right into Broadwalk then take the path on the left which comes out near Wilmslow Rugby Club. At the end of the path turn left then right down to the river Bollin at the Carrs Car Park. Cross the bridge and turn left beside the river then take the path on the left into the Styal Estate. Follow the path which comes out at Quarry Bank Mill, head up the road and then turn left passing the Apprentice house, the path comes out back at Styal Cross where you turn right to come out on Altrincham Road again.
