Goostrey & Allostock - 5.5 mile run to Dovemere near Shakerley Mere

Have you visited Dovemere?

So you may have visited Shakerley Mere, but did you know that just a few hundred yards away on the otherwise of the M6 there is another mere? Neither did I until recently, it’s called Dovemere and its a much quieter spot. So today I started in Goostrey, I’ve run here before out through the woods and up to the Peover estate but today we are taking the path west of Goostrey through to Allostock and then doing a lap of Dovemere and back, well worth a visit.

Note the starting point in Goostrey is close to the Dromedary Lodge path which I used in this route Holmes Chapel to Goostrey  so you could extend / combine the routes if you want to extend the route out to Holmes Chapel.

The Route

Starting from Sandy Lane in Goostrey head down the track onto the lane. At the end of the road cross over and take the path to Wood Lane. Follow the lane straight onto Brick Bank Lane where we cross over and go straight on down the track. The track eventually brings you to a courtyard, which you cross and then head down the driveway which comes out on London Road at Allostock. Turn left and then right into Chapel lane. Go straight on onto the track at the bend and follow the track straight on which comes out on Wash Lane. Turn right and follow the road to the end. Cross the road and go straight on onto Hulme Hall Lane then turn immediately left into Old Middlewich Road. Follow the road which becomes a track alongside the M6, Shakerley Mere is on the opposite side of the M6. When you reach Dovemere take the path on your right through the Fishermans carpark and then follow the path around the edge of the Mere. The mere is split by a spit of land so at the far side of the mere you reach a point where the path splits left / right, you can go either way, I opted to go left down the spit of land then right alongside the other side of the mere. Follow the path past which eventually brings you back to Wash lane. Turn right on Wash lane and then take the path on your left back to London Road at Allostock. Turn left passing Chapel lane and then turning right back down the track we came down. Retrace your steps from this point back to the starting point in Goostrey.
