Harthill & Bickerton - 5 mile circular on the Sandstone Trail includes Larkton Hill

Today we’re in Harthill for a fantastic circular route on the Sandstone trail. Today’s route is a companion route for the Sandstone trail part 3 video  where I head from Bickerton to Whitchurch for those who want a shorter circular route while enjoying the magnificent views from Bickerton hill.

The Route

Starting from All saints church at Harthill, head up the track opposite the church passing Harthill itself and dropping down to the Wrexham road. Turn left and then right for Brown Knowl, when you reach the church on your right take the path on your left over the field and up to Bickerton hill. At the edge of the woods turn right and follow the path which leads through the woodland eventually arriving at the entry point for the old coach road national trust car park where we turn left. Follow the path straight on until you eventually reach the other National trust car park off Goldford lane, just after the car park turn left and follow the Sandstone trail marked footpath up to Two Maidens and the viewing point at Larkton Hill and follow the Sandstone Trail path. Before you get to Kitty’s rock at a sandy clearing (see video) turn left off the Sandstone trail and then as the path forks go right, this brings you down through the woods to the road at Reading Room Lane at Brown Knowl. Turn left and then right at the end of the road returning the way you came back to Harthill.

Exploring the Sandstone Trail in Cheshire, it’s one of the oldest and most popular middle distance walks in the Northwest of England.

I ran the full 34.8 miles in a day and I’ve split it into 3 videos. In the final one I complete the final third of the Sandstone trail from Bickerton to Whitchurch
