Helsby Hill & Alvanley, Cheshire - 3 Mile Walk / Run

You’re in for a treat today, and this ones just for you, thank you so much for supporting my adventures. Today I’m in the north of Cheshire near Frodsham at Helsby. Starting from the Quarry we are running up onto Helsby Hill for a fantastic view across to the River Mersey we can see the Welsh Mountains, Stanlow Oil Refinery, The Wirral, Liverpool, Frodsham and Runcorn. We head over the top then drop down and pick up the North Cheshire Way Path and follow it to Alvanley. The route is about 3 miles but I point out where you could easily join the Sandstone Trail path up on to Woodhouse Hill and up to the top at Frodsham Hill where we’ve been before if you’d like a longer adventure. We pass the White Lion at Alvanley if you fancy some refreshments before finishing back at the quarry.

The Route

From the car park head up Hill Road South and onto the path up the hill. Bear left where the path splits and follow it to the trig point at the top for the view then carry on along the path to the far side where we turn right and follow the path to Hill Road North where we turn right. Follow the lane then take the path on the left (North Cheshire Way). At Tarvin Road turn left down the hill then turn right on the path.

At the field we go straight on for Alvanley this is where you could turn left for Woodhouse Hill, the path goes to Ridgeway where you can pick up the Sandstone Trail by The Ridgeway Country Holiday Park.

We continue along the path to Alvanley which crosses Commonside, where the path forks go left and the right on Manley Road passing The White Lion, then turn left into Helsby Road. Just follow this lane back, just before the car park we take a left and a right to loop through the quarry (it would be rude not to).
