Today we are in Kingsley in Cheshire, its a quiet village in the Weaver Valley between Northwich and Frodsham. The name derives from “Kings Meadow” I assume due to its proximity to Delamere Forest which the nobility used for hunting during the Norman period. We’re going to head into the quieter part of Delamere Forest and then through to Hatchmere Lake and around. The route is circular, about 7 miles and mostly off road.
Starting from The Hurst by The Red Bull Inn in Kingsley we run up The Brow then turn left into Hollow lane and through Kingsley. Turn left down Middle lane then at the end cross Norley Road straight on then turn left into Waterloo Lane.
At the bend go straight on into Delamere Forest. The path goes to the right, when you meet the main path at the Forest Lodges turn left and then take the path on the left which skirts the edge of the forest. Follow the path straight on when you reach the farm and head over the field to the forest on the far side. Cross the stile into the forest and turn right, the path comes out on the switchback road (Ashton Road) opposite Barnsbridge Car Park.
Cross the road and take the sandstone trail marked path beside the car park. Then take the path on the left down to Blakemere Moss and turn left on the path around the moss. At the far end of the moss turn left away from the moss and follow the path back to the switchback road.
Turn right down the road to Hatchmere. At the end of the road turn left to the Carriers Inn at Hatchmere Lake then take the path opposite. Where the path splits take the left fork straight on through to Norley Road and turn left.
Turn left into Beech lane and then take the path on the left which comes out by the Hurst in Kingsley. Turn right at the Hurst and then left down the Hurst to the starting point.
The route is based on parking on the road near the Red Bull, parking is available for patrons at the Red Bull.
