Formby to Southport Coastal Run
Through the Formby pinewoods and over the dunes, then mile after mile of beach to Ainsdale and on into Southport, with the train home.

From Formby you run through the pinewoods and over the dunes onto the beach, then follow it north all the way to Ainsdale-on-Sea. There was a fenced-off bit when I went so I took a small detour up the Nicotine Sand Path.
At Ainsdale you can stay on the beach right into Southport. I tried the dunes instead and quickly decided they were hard work, so my advice is to come off the beach and turn left at the roundabout onto the Trans Pennine Trail along the coast road.
In Southport it's up the Esplanade and Victoria Way to Lord Street, where Wetherspoons is handy before the train back.
