This is one of the most underrated stretches of coast in the North West. I started near the pier, went up the prom and through Princes Park, then up Lord Street to the war memorial, which hit me harder than I expected.
Back on the front you pass the amusements and loop round the Marine Lake, home of the Lakeside Inn, which claims to be Britain's smallest pub. Then you pick up Marine Drive heading north and the views open right up across the Ribble estuary.
It's flat, about 7 miles, and one way. The bus back from Banks costs about three quid.
