Whitchurch, Shropshire - Brown Moss & Prees Heath on the Shropshire Way

We are exploring in North Shropshire today just outside Whitchurch, what a lovely spot for a walk or a run, large swathes of farm land, country lanes and little villages there is so much to explore. 

So today we new starting from Brown Moss Nature Reserve which is a beautiful peaceful place we head south on the Shropshire Way to Prees Heath and over Prees Heath Common before heading through Prees Higher Heath and Twemlows Big Wood and over the fields to Ash Parva and Ash Magna. Then from the White Lion pub at Ash Magna we take the path over the fields and up the lane taking a minute to stop and enjoy the magnificent view south across Shropshire before following the path back down to our starting point at Brown Moss.

The Route

From the Car Park at Brown Moss Reserve head anti clockwise around the moss. At the far side join the Shropshire way and turn left, exit onto the lane and turn right. Follow the lane to the far end where it meets Hospital Lane and go straight on through the tree on the far side of the road onto the path. Head over the field exiting by the main road at the roundabout at Prees Heath. Cross the road with car and turn left past the truck stop, cafe and chip shop onto the A49 Whitchurch road. Turn left onto the path into Prees Heath common and follow the Shropshire Way marked path. If you are unsure we are heading south and east to the woods at the far end of the common where we turn left on a track behind the farm. Take the footpath at the end of the track and follow it, through two gates after which you come out on a track follow it left to Heathwood Road in Prees Higher Heath and turn left. At the end of the road turn left onto the A41 and turn immediately right down the track into Twemlows Big Wood. Follow the track until you reach a farm yard where we turn right to a stile and turn left. Follow this path over the fields until you reach a crossroads of paths turn left and follow the path. You will reach a farm track cross it straight on and turn right along the edge of the field, half way down the field the path bears left across the field. At the far side of the field you reach a path on your left which comes out on the lane at Ash Parva where we turn left. Follow the lane through Ash Parva and Ash Magna to the White Lion pub then take the path left opposite the pub. The path comes out on Ash Road where we turn right up a short hill before turning left onto the path. Pause here to take in the fantastic views south across Shropshire before following the path which drops back down into Brown Moss where we turn right and rejoin the moss for a short stretch back to the car park.
