It’s day 2 and after a good nights rest at Karden House in Llandudno I’m continuing my run down the coast. I ended up stopping at Llanfairfechan and then getting the train back to Abergele. Best bit of this leg was definitely Conwy, the 13th Century castle is a UNESCO world heritage site being one of the finest examples of 13-14th century military architecture today, like Holt castle that we visited a couple of weeks ago it was built on the orders of Edward I when he defeated the welsh and annexed Wales. Also Quay House (The smallest house in Great Britain) is on our route in Conwy, looking at the height of the door I doubt you’d be able to stand up inside.
Again a very simple route, we are following cycle route 5 / the Welsh Coast Path along the North Wales Coast. Starting from West Shore in Llandudno join the coastal path through to Deganwy and on through to and over the bridge into Conwy. Once over the bridge continue on the waterfront and through the stone arch then turn right on the path that follows the edge of the river Conwy which comes out on Morfa drive. Turn right over the A55 and then turn right at the end into Ellis Way. At this point you can either follow cycle route 5 by turning left at the roundabout and then right to rejoin the coastal path or right into the marina and then left along the coastal path around the headland beside the golf course.
The paths converge at the seafront, continue along the coastal path around Penmaenbach Point (A55 tunnel) and then down into Penmaenmawr. Continue along the front and then turn left, the path take you under the A55 and comes out near the mouth of the next tunnel, the path continue to the left of the tunnel. At this point you get a clear view of Anglesey. Keep following the path and you will eventually drop down to some house on the edge of Llanfairfechan head along the road dropping down the hill until you reach the footbridge over the A55, cross the bridge and continue along the side of the A55 and then drop down onto a track that comes out on Shore Road East, turn right through the tunnel and then left into Llanfairfechan.
There is some free parking on the front at West Shore
Regular trains run from Llanfairfechan to Llandudno, some require a change at Llandudno Junction
Karden House was a lovely bed and breakfast, in the middle of Llandudno it was clean, had all the facilities you would want, was reasonably priced and was run by a very pleasant team.
