Caernarfon to Gyrn Goch | Running the Wales Coast Path

Today we are continuing our run down the Wales Coast Path starting from Caernarfon. The route is mostly on country lanes, with a section running on the coast road / beside it on what remains of the old coast road. Some breathtaking views along the way and of course my favourite thing, running on the beach.

I covered 15.5 miles, starting at Aber Foreshore Road with views of Caernarfon Castle and the Walled Town and then heading down the foreshore with views down the Llyn Peninsula where we can see the mountains including Gyrn Goch at the foot of which we end today. The route takes us inland to navigate around the bay and then crosses the salt marshes passing Caernarfon Airport and back to the shoreline at Dinas Dinlle Beach. We head through Dinas Dinlle and up the A499 coast road and following the road and what remains of the old road that runs parallel to it. At Pontllynfni I took a detour off the path down to the beach and had a run down Aberdesach Beach and through Aberdesach before returning to the coast road and on to Clynnog Fawr for a look at St Beuno’s Church and St Beuno’s Well, ending our route at Gyrn Goch near the Aberafon Camping and Caravan site which will make an ideal place to pick up our journey next time.

I had a great day out, I hope you enjoy watching the video as much as I enjoyed making it.

The Route

Starting from Aber Foreshore Road follow the foreshore and inland. At the end of the road turn right on Saron Road and then at Saron turn right down to the Bay. At the end of the road turn right and then after the second house take the path on your right. Follow it through the woods and over the bridge across the salt marshes. You will reach a track on your left, take this past Morfa Lodge Holiday Park, it comes out close to Caernarfon Airport. Follow the road past the airport to the beach at Dinas Dinlle. Head down the beach into Dinas Dinlle then continue following this road to its end at the A499 coast road. Turn right and follow the path that runs alongside the road / on what remains of the old road. When you reach Pontllynfni, take a right down to the foreshore and turn left down the beach and onto Aberdesach Beach. At the far end head through the carpark and back up the lane through Aberdesach to the A499 and turn right. Follow the road to Clynnog Fawr where the path turns off the road and through the village. Head past the church and just after the petrol station turn left on the old road which eventually rejoins the A499 which we follow to Gyrn Goch at Aberafon Camping and Caravan Site.
