Formby to Southport - A 10 mile coastal adventure

Starting in Formby we run through the woods and over the dunes to the beach and follow up all the way to Ainsdale-on-sea. I did have to make a small diversion up the Nicotine Sand Path to avoid an area that was fenced off. At Ainsdale I felt like a change and got off the beach. You could continue along the beach all the way into Southport. I got off and went over the dunes but quickly decided this was hard work and joined the Trans Pennine Trail on the Coastal road. If you get off, I’d suggest heading off the beach, then at the roundabout turn left on the Trans Pennine Trail. At Southport I headed up the Esplanade and down Victoria Way then left into Lord Street where you will find Wetherspoons for refreshment before heading to the train station. In March 2025 a single to Formby was £4.80
