Hope Mountain Near Wrexham - Views of Cheshire, Liverpool & Snowdonia

Today we are just outside Wrexham in North Wales at Hope starting from Waun y Llyn Country Park on Hope Mountain. From here you have panoramic views looking into Snowdonia including Moel Famau and across Cheshire including Beeston Castle, Jodrell Bank, Helsby Hill, Ellesmere Port, The Runcorn Widnes Bridge and of course up the river Mersey towards Liverpool. Well worth a visit even if you just come for a bimble around the top on a clear day. I headed through the country park and then down into the valley to the Bridge Inn for a 6 miler, crossing the river Alyn and following what looks like an ancient pathway through the woods then over the fields near the Hartsheath Estate then recrossing the river and head back up Hope Mountain. DO NOT go back up the way I went, the paths are either completely unmarked or go nowhere or have no exit at the far end, instead continue past where I turn off the Mold Road and take the next lane on your right follow it up the hill and take the next left which will take you back to the point where we left the country park.

The Route

From the car park head up to the summit then continue across the top on the main path to the far side. You come out at the lane, take the path opposite and follow it, at the woods bear left onto what looks like an ancient track, follow it down to the lane and turn left. Now turn right opposite the farm, the path heads down the hill, you bear left and follow the left hand edge to Mold Road, turn left then right into the car park of the Bridge Inn. Take the path across the bridge and follow it through the woods. At the stile turn left and follow the path around the edge of the field, the path continues left at the far side of the wood which borders the far edge. Now head straight on up the bank, and straight on down across the fields, it’s been newly posted and so is nice and clear. At the post just before the gateway turn right and follow the path back to the river, crossing at the bridge and going straight on to Mold Road. Turn left and follow the road until you reach a lane on your right (Tir Y Fron Lane) Take this and follow it up the hill taking the first turn on your left continue to follow up back up to where we left the country park, turn left and retrace your steps back to the car park
