Today we’re heading to Carey Park in Northwich to run the course of the Northwich Parkrun. It’s a lovely spot for a park run, all off road and well surfaced the route has two loops the first smaller one is a little over a mile, the second takes us down to the river weaver, through to Marbury lane and then up the hill towards Marbury park before turning around and skirting the edge of Neumann’s Flashes and ending on Marbury Lane .
I’ve started from the lay-by at Wincham on the New Warrington Road. Take the path straight ahead from the Layby through to Marbury Lane then turn left passing the Parkrun finishing line. Cross the bridge then take the path on the right passing the recycling centre then turn left down to the starting point at the entrance to Carey Park from the Cumberland Street Car Park.
From the start head down the track that runs parallel to the river, when the path forks turn right and wind your way up the hill. Now we drop down the far side towards the recycling centre where we turn right and drop down the hill again back to the starting point. For the second lap, repeat but when the path forks turn left down to the Weaver and cross Carey Bridge and turn right. Where the path turns left for Dairy House Meadows turn right which comes out on Marbury Lane where we turn left up the hill.
I turned around when I reached the uplands path on the left however I believe the route has now been extended and now the turn around is about 200 yards further up at the gate by the canal.
Head back down Marbury Lane, cross the bridge then take the path on the left. Where the path forks go left and then turn right this comes out back on Marbury Lane close to the finish for a final sprint ending at the barrier across the road before the Mill Meadow Car Park.
I then headed straight on to past the recycling centre and took the steps on the right up to Aldi then right on Leicester street, left down Venables Road then right into Witton Street to enjoy a well earned drink at Wetherspoons (The Penny Black).
The route is based on parking at the Lay-by on New Warrington Road in Wincham
