PATREON EXCLUSIVE: Stanage Edge - 7 Mile Run, Peak District, Derbyshire

Today on run adventurer I’ve had a beautiful drive out into the Peak District from Macclesfield through Whaley Bridge and Chapel-en-le-frith down the Winnats Pass into the Hope valley through Castleton and on to Bamford near Hathersage on the Sheffield side of the Peak District. Not too far really 30 odd miles from Cheshire and a very pretty drive. Then we’ve had a 7 mile run starting from Dennis Knoll along Stanage Edge to Stanage End dropping down to the Snake Pass and looping back around over the moors.

The Route

Starting at Dennis Knoll follow the track up to the edge. At the top take the track left along the ridge and follow it. Beyond theatric point there are a couple of places where you can get off the ridge onto the path below (see video) this makes the route much shorter about 4 miles. I continued on to the A57 Snake Pass and turned left and then took the path on the left (after the road on right), it bends right and heads  across the moors. Eventually you reach a branch in the path where we turn left up towards the ridge where you would have come out if you’d climbed off the ridge for the shorter route. We turn right on the path under the ridge and follow it. Eventually you will be able to see the trees down at Dennis Knoll ahead to your right and then we reach a path to the right, take this and follow it which brings us back to the track we started from. Turn right and follow it back to the starting point.
