Today we are heading out into the Peak District National Park between Macclesfield and Buxton for a run up the ridge from Pym Chair to Cats Tor and on to Shining Tor in the upper Goyt Valley. The ridge forms the boundary between Cheshire East and Derbyshire and provides fantastic views of both Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Parking at Errwood Reservoir we head up the hill and then along the ridge. Filmed early on a frosty morning, the sun was low and there was a hard frost adding a whole extra dimension to the beauty of the view.
From the Reservoir Dam, head up the bank and cross the road and into the car park and turn right. At the end of the car park continue straight on onto the path that runs alongside the road. After a short distance the path crosses the road and continues up the hill on the other side. Continue up the hill until eventually you reach Pym Chair and a sign to your right for Windgather. Turn left here , cross the road and take the path on the other side of the road up onto the ridge. Just follow the path up the ridge to Oldgate Nick and on to Cats Tor and on to Shining Tor for a magnificent view. From Shining Tor turn left and head across the top. You pass through a stone gateway at which point you turn left. Follow the path which will bring you down to the car park at the other end of Errwood Reservoir then turn left down the road back to the starting point at the far end.
