It’s a misty October morning and today we’re exploring Dunham Woodhouses on the edge of the Dunham Massey Estate. We’re taking advantage of the fact that the Trans Pennine Trail and the Bridgewater canal run parallel between Warrington and so we can jump between the two. Starting from the Henshall Lane Car Park on the Trans Pennine Trail we follow the trail towards Altrincham and then pick up the Bridgewater canal and follow it back towards the village. Note you could also get off the canal and head through Dunham Town to the National Trust Estate at Dunham Massey if you like. The route I took was 4.9 miles however I do point out a shortcut that brings it down to 3.6 if you prefer
From the car park turn left on the Trans Pennine Trail and follow it to the car park on Seamon’s Road, Altrincham and turn right. At the bend turn right and join the Bridgewater Canal turning right and following the canal. After the bridge over Woodhouse Lane take the next path right. Go down the steps and turn right. Follow the path straight on, ignore the 2 paths off to the left. Follow the path over the fields coming out on Woodhouse Lane in Dunham Woodhouses. Turn left and follow it around to the right passing the Vine Pub and Dunham Massey Ice Cream Parlour. When you reach the Rope and Anchor pub follow station road straight on (to the right of the pub) then take the trans pennine trail path on your right then left back to the car park.
I parked on the road at the car park on Henshall Lane, Dunham Woodhouses
Alternatively park at the Transpennine Trail Car Park, Seamon's Road, Altrincham
