Today on Run Adventurer, we’re in Wincle which lies right on the border between Cheshire and Staffordshire south of Macclesfield. Sitting in a valley its a lovely quiet spot with a great pub (The Ship Inn) and the Wincle Brewery which has a sampling room and brewery shop and makes a perfect spot for a walk or run. I’m heading down the River Dane on a section of the Dane Valley Way and then back to Wincle on a section of the Gritstone Trail.
I started from the Ship Inn and ran down the hill to the Wincle Brewery where we turn right past the brewery and pick up the Dane Valley Way. Follow the path beside the river. The path eventually crosses the river by a weir. Cross the bridge then turn right and continue alongside the otherwise of the river. Just keep going straight on until eventually you cross the river again . Head up the hill and then on the bend take the path straight on follow the Gritstone Trail markers until shortly after you pass the tumbled down remains of a croft the Gritstone trail takes a 90 degree left turn. We leave the gritstone trail here and take the path straight on. Follow the path until it comes out by a farm. Turn right down the lane, after a short distance take the path on your right across the field and down through the woods and over another field coming out on the road where we parked. Turn right down the hill to the pub for a well earned drink.
The route is based on parking on the road near the The Ship Inn
Alternatively park on the bridge over the River Dane
Great food and drink, perfect place to finish your walk or run
Sample room and brewery shop available at the brewery
