Exploring Aldford - 7.5 Mile Run on the River Dee in Cheshire

Today on Run Adventurer, we’re in Aldford in Cheshire. Located at the Southern end of the Grosvenor Estate the village was built in the 19th Century by Sir Richard Grosvenor, 2nd Marquess of Westminster and its a beautiful place.

Starting near The Grosvenor Arms, we are going to have a run down the river Dee at Aldford Iron Bridge. Note we turn left at the river, if you cross the bridge and turn right the path would take you to Eccleston Ferry where we have filmed before. Its a rough path but completely out in the middle of nowhere it was very peaceful. We step away from the river as we approach Churton, again note if you go straight on you would end up at Farndon where we have filmed before. From Churton we head across the fields back to Aldford.

The Route

From Green Lake Lane turn left and pass The Grosvenor Arms, then turn left into Church Lane. At the church turn right and go through the white gate by the church and straight on across the fields. You come out neat the Aldford Iron Bridge, turn left and just before the bridge take the path on the left, follow this along the riverside. When you reach a fork at some would go right staying close to the river and continue until you reach a field bear right around the edge of it and on through a narrow pasture. At the end of this you meet a track by some woods. Follow the track with the woods to your left. Keep following the path you will come close to the river bank by a small house, go straight on into the woods and then where the path splits go right away from the river. Follow this track up the hill. Eventually you will meet another track where we turn left it comes out on Hob Lane in Churton. Go straight on at the main road turn right and immediately left into Pump Lane and then left into New Lane. Take the path by the stone wall on your right and follow this a short distance. Take the path on your left which goes over the fields coming out close to Aldford. Turn right on the main road, its just a short distance and there is a verge. Turn right into School lane and follow it, at the farm it turns right. Follow it all the way back into Aldford just after the church turn right into Middle Lane and then left back into Green Lake Lane.
