Lower Withington - A Run in the shadow of Jodrell Bank

Today on Run Adventurer we are just outside Holmes Chapel in Cheshire at Lower Withington. Sitting close to Jodrell Bank, blink and you’d miss this quiet village. I started from the village green and then point out the Red Lion Pub close to our start point before heading out across the fields and down the lanes and through the woods for a route totalling about 3.8 miles so a nice distance for a pub walk. Right now this is a sensible distance for me to run as I recover my strength and fitness following heart surgery, I do point out where you could extend the route to make a longer loop or to head out towards Siddington where we’ve filmed before. It was a really peaceful spot, open countryside, woods and quiet country lanes and some great views of Jodrell Bank and also across to Bosley Cloud and Crocker Hill on the Gritstone Trail.

The Route

We headed across the village green to check out the Red Lion Pub which looks worthy of a visit

Then we headed back down beside the village green, crossed the road and took the path over the fields to Dooleys Grig and turned right following the path beside Dingle Brook to Catchpenny Lane.

We take a right and follow the lane passing Catchpenny Pool and on to the woods at Whitecroft Heath. Note don’t leave the woods at the gate at the far end, instead turn right through the edge of the wood then right down the side of the next two field then turn left heading back for Lower Withington
