Riverside Walk - Erbistock on the River Dee near Wrexham

Todays route is beautiful, heading south of Wrexham we turn off the road to Overton down a little lane that doesn’t seem to go anywhere except the tiny village of Erbistock on the river Dee. There is a great pub The Boat right on the river bank where you can sit outside and watch the river slide by, I was smitten. The pub is made of sandstone and dates to the 17th century standing on the site of a ferry crossing. It’s a real shame there isn’t a ferry or a footbridge now as there are loads of paths on the other side of the river, I’ll one back and explore them in the not too distant future.

I started from Erbistock Ferry Road, there is space for 3 or 4 cars to park, the other option would be to park at the pub and enjoy the facilities before/after your walk. Much of todays route is along the river Dee and on the Wats Dyke Way, which I must explore further.

The Route

Head down Erbistock Ferry road and take the second path on the right which drops down to the riverside. Follow the path along the river and then up to a field. Go straight on, cross the farm track and then bear right in the next field. Follow it to the track and turn right then left into the road that drops down to The Boat at Erbistock Public House. Follow the path along the river, eventually the path heads away from the river, follow it up the hill and onto a lane. Take the second path on your right and follow it across the fields and down into a valley where it comes out by a house and a little stream, the Wats Dyke Path continues straight on here but we turn left up another lane (none of these lanes show up on the map they are marked as footpaths). At the top of the hill turn right into the lane then at the bend bear right and follow the lane then turn left back into the Ferry road back to the starting point.
