New Mills - Torrs Riverside Park, Millennium Walkway & Swizzels

Today we are straddling the Cheshire / Derbyshire border near Disley. Starting from The Hague Bar Picnic Site at the Torrs Riverside Park on the river Goyt we run through to New Mills in High Peak Derbyshire. The river was rushing by at speed, you could feel its power and the noise of the white water at the Millennium Walkway at New Mills was food for the soul. At the site of the old Torr Mill (a cotton mill dating to 1790) we turn away from the river passing a very pleasant looking pub ‘Rock Tavern’ and then make for the Swizzels Sweet Factory. The air smelt like a bag of sweets It was lovely. We picked up the Peak Forest canal following it towards Marple then at the edge of Disley we turn away down into the valley and rejoin the river Goyt back to our starting point. I really needed that, so beautiful.

The route

From the car park at The Hague Bar Picnic Site head down the bank to the river and turn left. Follow the path beside the river all the way to Torr Mill at New Mills then turn right up the bank to Rock Tavern at the end of Wirksmoor Road and turn left. Follow the road to Albion Road and go straight on into Victoria Street and then right on the towpath behind the Swizzels Sweet Factory. Follow the canal to Disley, after the swing bridge near Hagg Bank lane continue around the next bend and then take the path right which goes straight through a farm and comes out on Strines Road. Turn right and follow this for a short distance taking the next path on the right which rejoins the river. Follow the path back to Waterside road and follow this road back to the starting point
