Today we have a 6 mile route from Whitegate in Cheshire. Located between Northwich and Winsford, we are out in the countryside with a few familiar paths (The Whitegate Way and The Weaver Way) which we are joining up with some new paths to form a circular route. Its a great mix of country lanes and footpaths with streams, fields and woods then the disused railway at the Whitegate Way for a stretch to Catsclough Crossing and then down the river Weaver to Vale Royal Locks and up through Vale Royal Abbey and back to Whitegate.
Starting from Cinder Hill take the path to Foxiest Green and turn left. Follow the lane to the end and take the path straight on down to Bogart Brook. Follow the brook, at the stile by the field with the beware of the bull sign keep left and take the path straight on through the woods. At the far side of the woods you come out on Rays Lane where we turn left up the hill (alternatively take a detour right, taking the path on your right up to The Plough Inn on Beauty Bank).
At the top of the rise take the path on your right over the fields to the Whitegate Way. Turn left and follow the trail back to Cats Clough Crossing where we turn left. Follow the track then bear right and follow the track onto School Road at Meadow Bank. At the end of School Road turn left opposite the Winsford Salt Mine and take the path on the right across the bridge at Weaver Parkway. Turn left and follow the river Weaver to Vale Royal Locks. Turn left crossing the locks and follow the track up to Vale Royal Woods and turn left into Vale Royal Abbey ( Vale Royal Golf Club). Follow the path past the Club House and through to Vale Royal Drive then take the path on your left through the woods which comes out on Cinder Hill. Turn left up the hill to the starting point.
