Exploring Marford, Wrexham - Ryan Reynolds New Home Town?

As Marford has been in the news with famous Canadian movie star and Wrexham Football Club owner Ryan Reynolds buying a house there and because I’m loving running over near Wrexham, today we explore Marford and the surrounding area. It’s just a small place with a road running along a hillside and houses on either side taking advantage of the fantastic views over towards the hills at Beeston, Peckforton, Bulkeley and Bickerton in Cheshire which of course we’ve visited before.

Rather than just running up the main road past the Trevor Arms and up to the Red Lion instead we run down the hill to Rossett and then head across the meadow with views up the hill to Marford and then as we climb back up towards Marford we get a taste of the view that the local residents get to enjoy everytime they look out of their windows.
I’ve started at Marford Quarry, there is space for half a dozen cars to park. The quarry was used to supply aggregate for the Mersey Tunnel but now has been left to nature and is a site of special scientific interest.

The Route

From the quarry, head up Springfield lane. At the end turn left and follow Chester road to Rossett. Turn left on Manor lane and follow it continue on the path to Cox Lane then turn right and take the next path on the left. Follow the path to Park lane and turn right and then at the end turn left into Hoseley lane. Take the path on the right over the field then continue straight on up Vicarage lane. Take the path on the right over the fields to Hillock Lane, turn left and follow it to the end. Turn right on Chester road and then left on Sandy Lane. At the end turn right on Pant lane and then immediately take the path on your left back into Marford quarry. Follow the path through the quarry back to the starting point.
