I love the peace of being on the coast at sunset, it’s always different as the weather and seasons change with a vast open sky. Today we are back to one of my favourite places, the Wirral near Neston. My family lived here for many years and it holds a special place in my heart.
Starting at Denhall near Ness Gardens we head up to Burton village which is a very desirable place to live with all its sandstone and thatch houses. All this area is beautiful, all the villages are really pretty due in part to the wealth that flowed from the ports along the Dee Estuary at Shotwick, Burton, Denhall Quay at Neston and Parkgate.
From Burton we head back through to Neston and drop down to Quayside near the old sandstone quays and the site of the old colliery. There is a great pub here you should visit, The Harp, come and watch the sun go down from outside the pub, you won’t be disappointed.
We then head through Neston and left to Parkgate crossing the Wirral Way which follows the course of the old Birkenhead rail line that used to run from Hooton to West Kirby.
The water may no longer lap against the wall but it still feels like the seaside, take a walk along the prom and grab an ice cream at Nichells.
We’re losing the light at this point so make a dash through Heswall and down to Thurstaston to catch the last of the sunset, such a fantastic view and so peaceful.
