I’m loving the coastal adventure little by little extending my progress. We’ve run all the path now from Aberdaron at the tip of the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales to Flint. I’ve also previously run much of the Wirral so by running the section from Flint to Deeside today we’ve covered all the path continuous from Aberdaron to Parkgate on the Wirral.
Todays run starts at Flint Docks which was built to export Lead and coal it was then used by a business that moved from Liverpool making Soda, a dirty process so the air would have been fully of clouds of acid before its decline. It’s a beautiful place for a walk, we are directly opposite Parkgate on the Wirral so it was interesting to see it from a different perspective . Next we explore Flint Castle a 13th century castle which is in surprisingly good condition, well worth climbing the tower to take in the view.
From here we continue onto the marshes before crossing the rail tracks and head up the road to Connahs Quay Power Station and straight through ‘The Quay’ as it’s known locally. We then drop back down to the estuary for a great view of the Flintshire Bridge, known as the bridge to nowhere as it doesn’t connect to the A55.
It’s a straight run from here to Shotton Steelworks at Harwarden Bridge. We cross the rail bridge then take the turn for Neston, which brings us out at Deeside Industrial Park where we’ve filmed before when we ran from the Wirral out to Deeside and Shotwick.
