Today on Run Adventurer, we’re off to see the Blackpool illuminations. Seven miles of beautiful beaches, Blackpool has been a popular resort since sea bathing became popular in the mid 18th century and then the railway arrived back in 1846 and it became even more popular.
Blackpool has three piers, the North Pier was built in 1863 and then the Central Pier followed in 1868 and then the South Pier arrived in 1893. Blackpool is famous for Blackpool Tower built in 1894 its inspiration was the Eiffel Tower. At the time of construction it was the tallest manmade building in the British Empire.
The Blackpool illuminations date from 1879, at the start they were a wonderment, the artificial sunlight back in the times when all the homes were lit by candles. Over the years the lights show has just got bigger and bigger and it’s different every year. Well worth a visit.
